Reynoldsville Borough Council learns the pool DCED grant request was rejected–again
The Reynoldsville Borough Council met in a work session on December 6 and opened bids for work at the Reynoldsville Pool.
Only one bid from Francis J. Palo, Inc. was received and totaled $330,000.
The council was also informed that the latest attempt to get a Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development grant was rejected, the third time this has happened. This time it was rejected because of a missing letter from State Representative Brian Smith of the 66th District.
In a conversation with Reynlow Community News on December 7, Representative Smith said that he had not been made aware of the grant application, something municipalities need to do when applying for state grants.
Representative Smith said he spoke with Council President William Cebulskie about what happened and told him to resubmit the application next year. In the meantime, he said, his office would try to find other avenues of funding for the borough.
What to do about this year will be the focus of a meeting to held Monday night, December 13, at the borough office with pool officials, the contractor, and the project engineer., this according to pool spokesman Jack Matusky.
Matusky said the meeting will look at what can be done this spring with the monies available. He said he’s been assured what work can be done will be completed by May 15 and that it will not “jeopardize the pool opening.”
The council plans to discuss the issue again at its regular meeting to be held December 15.
