DASD school board October meeting wrap up by Glenn Schuckers
At the opening of the October 26 DuBois Area School Board meeting, board president Larry Salone said that they had held an executive meeting earlier and that one of the items of discussion was the position of assistant superintendent. There has not been an assistant superintendent since the retirement of the former assistant two years ago. There were no further details of the discussion.
Student representatives Julia Wirths and Dominic Vizza brought the board up to date on activities at the high school. Those included the induction of 45 new members of the National Honor Society, accomplishments of the fall sports teams, a contest to select the school’s upcoming musical production, and the work done by the school’s Hope Squad.
The board then approved nine requests for conferences and meetings by instructors and administrators as well as fourteen requests for students and instructors to attend various festivals. Also approved was a request for fifteen students and two instructors to tour Advanced Powder Products. In comments prior to the agenda director Mark Gilga said he was glad to see students visit a local industry and hoped there would be more field trips like it.
The board then passed a motion to hire Suzanne Erickson as a school psychologist at the Masters level step thirteen year 13. Her employment will begin on October 31. Action to hire two individuals for the positions of Auditorium Manager at the Middle School and Middle School Play Stage Manager was deferred after Board member Dave Schwab asked that a list of duties and/or job description would be provided.
With no other business to conduct the meeting was adjourned.
