Reynoldsville council holds monthly work session

The Reynoldsville Borough Council held its monthly work session on August 6 at the borough office.

John Burkett provided information to council on the recent meeting he and council member Darren Scolese had with Jefferson County and state officials concerning a multimodal grant from the state. The money can be used for sidewalks, streetscape improvements, new street lighting and more. Burkett said the grant request will be for Third to Fifth Streets.

“They have to be in by September; there’s a lot of work to do on it before it goes in,” Burkett said.

The council approved a motion to proceed with application process. Burkett said he planned to reach out to state and county officials for support.

During the meeting, council president Bill Cebulskie asked for a motion to approve a forensic audit of the Reynoldsville Sewer and Water Authority books. However, none of the council members present would, so the effort died for the lack of a motion.

Borough secretary Jacqueline Dixon informed council about how difficult it’s been getting crossing guards for the upcoming school year. A full time guard is needed for the Bradford and Worth Street intersection and a part time position is available for the Jackson and Bradford Street intersection. Guards make $10.00 a trip, Dixon said. The times are from 8:25 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. And 3:25 p.m. to 3:40 p.m. Anyone interested should contact Dixon at the borough office at 653-2110.

Some discussion was given to problems with the storage room being used by the borough, the police department, and the library. Dixon requested help in getting it better organized and providing better security for the borough documents. Council agreed to look into the matter.

Council also discussed progress on the new downstairs police office. The conversation centered on the holding cell across from the office, which needs to be cleaned out and prepared for use. That would include a camera monitoring system. It is hoped the area will be ready over the next few weeks.

The council then went into an executive session to discuss personnel matters and did not expect to take any action after that session.
