Reynoldsville Veteran’s Memorial Park moving forward
The Reynoldsville Veteran’s Memorial Park Committee met on August 3 and was provided an update on park progress.
Committee vice president Ralph “Tucker” August reported the lot is being leveled with top soil. The cannons have been placed with the help of Malone Enterprises LLC of Reynoldsville. They will be sand-blasted and painted in the coming weeks.
The location for the Civil War monument, now located at the Reynoldsville Pool, has been prepared. August said Jim Korb of Korb Monuments of DuBois is studying how to move the monument to the site. He added that Ray Bussard, the park designer, continues to work on the layout.
Committee president Dan Edwards said that a lot of work has been completed in recent weeks, with thousands of dollars saved through donations of equipment, time and material.
“What these guys did in a short period of time is fantastic,” he said.
Edwards added that the proofs for the bronze monuments commemorating area World War I and II veterans are on display in the windows adjacent to Sub Hub on Main Street. Those monuments, purchased by the Reynoldsville American Legion, will be placed in the park.
Two bids were obtained for the sidewalk and curb in front of the park on Main Street. The bid was awarded to American Masonry of Reynoldsville for a bid price of $9500. That work is expected to begin in the next couple of weeks.
A groundbreaking ceremony has been scheduled for August 14 at 2 p.m. at the park. The public is invited to attend.
