Five students who received gold medals at the SkillsUSA District 7 Competition held in Altoona recently attended the Jeff Tech Operating Committee meeting on January 23.

Those students included Michael Ford (Diesel Equipment), who is also the student representative to the committee; Ethean Siple (Welding); and Mariska Isaac, Maya Isaac, and Chris Lengel who make up the Quiz Bowl Team. Other first place winners who weren’t at the meeting include Rileigh Hollopeter (Photography), and Isaiah Truesdale (Technical Computer Applications).

Team advisors Jamie Rhed and Josh Bridge told the committee that the students competed against more than a dozen schools, including much larger schools from Altoona, State, College, and Bedford.

Other winners included Greg Poole, who got a third place in HVAC; the Welding Fabrication Team made up of Austin Yoder, Kyle Lasher, and Paiden Trayer, placed second; and Blaze Hoch (Precision Machining) also got a second place.

The first place winners will compete at the state level in Hershey in April.
