New teacher’s contract at Jeff Tech

Jeff Tech has a new teacher’s contract following action at the Joint Operating Committee meeting on May 22.

By a unanimous vote, the committee approved the agreement with the Jefferson County-DuBois Area Vocational Technical Education Association beginning July 1 of last year, when the contract expired, and ending in June of 2027.

School Director Dr. Barry Fillman said he was “happy to have it resolved.” Union president Melissa Mulhollan said she, too, was happy the process had come to end. She pointed out that the school and the teachers agreed to a contract extension during Covid but that contract expired last July.

In other action, Dr. Fillman said the four sending school districts approved the Jeff Tech budget for the coming year as well as the officers for the joint committee and the capital project for the Farm to Table initiative.

Dr. Fillman also noted that graduation is set for Friday night at 7 pm. and that the weather should be good for an outdoor ceremony. He added that the school’s summer hours will be Monday through Thursday but closed on Fridays.
