Summer Garden Workshops for Summer 2019

The Penn State Jefferson County Extension Master Gardeners will be hosting a series of garden workshops at the Jefferson County Conservation District office on the second Tuesday evening of each month, May–October, from 6-7:30 pm, The office is located on Rt 28 and I-80, right in front of the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.  Classes are included as well as garden visits to see new projects will be a very short walk to the Outdoor Education Center at the fairground’s office.

Fifteen seats are available to residents of Jefferson or neighboring counties who want to receive a comprehensive education in Horticulture which is the art or practice of garden cultivation or management.

The classes and workshops will be taught by Certified Master Gardeners who volunteer their time to teach what they have learned from Penn State College of Agriculture in the Master Gardener program.  As trainees, they fund their own education and give 50 hours of service to their county in their first year in order to become Certified.  In their second year and thereafter, they donate 20+ hours doing the same thing, teaching individuals and building the garden sites used to show the newest forms of gardening. They must also complete 10 hours of continuing educational credits annually. The group’s primary goal is to share that information with the gardeners of Jefferson County.

Why?  It’s because when you have so much fun and gratification doing something you love, which is so good for the earth, you can’t keep quiet.  You must share the wealth.  In doing so, the earth is enriched, top quality food is produced, and better health becomes a reality.

Take advantage of this program which is supported by federal, state and county funds specifically for your benefit.   The Master Gardeners would love to share their knowledge and provide solutions to your individual gardening problems.

Register at by clicking here or by calling 877.345.0691.  The deadline to register is May 3, 2019.  Registration cannot be completed through the office.

The registration fee will cover materials for the workshops, and you may bring a friend for free (if extra seating is available) but materials are not provided for the extra person.  Register as soon as possible so we know how many persons to prepare for.  The classes are offered as a set of 6 and the registration fee for the entire set of Summer Garden Classes is $100.  Individual classes are not available this year.
