War memorial committee meets
One step at a time. That was the focus at the Reynoldsville War Memorial Committee meeting on February 6 at the American Legion.
Right now the committee is focused upon acquiring the land for the memorial. Members are looking at the property adjacent to Uni-Mart on Main Street. It had been damaged by fire at one time. It, and the adjacent building, would provide a large area to establish the park. It is hoped some action on that front will take place before the next meeting.
Plans for the park itself are still in the hands of students at The Jefferson County-DuBois Vocational-Technical School (Jeff Tech). At one point the plans were to include an area for a police station, but actions at the recent borough council meeting indicated that the area will be just for the park itself.
Once the land is acquired, the committee plans to move to the next step, demolition and site preparation.
The next meeting is March 6 at 7:00 p.m. at the Reynoldsville American Legion.
