DuBois Area School District names new assistant superintendent by Glenn Schuckers

The DuBois Area School District has a new assistant superintendent following action taken at the November 17 board meeting. 

The directors voted unanimously  to hire Shawn Ford as the new Assistant Superintendent. He will begin his duties on or after February 17, 2022, and his contract will continue until June of 2026. Ford is currently the superintendent of the Purchase Line District, a position he has held for the last four years. 

In other hirings,  the board voted to hire both Breanne Deeb and Emily Selfried as special education instructors. Deep has 18 years of experience in education and Selfried is in her first year. 

In other actions, the board voted to purchase a 2023  Ford F550 chassis truck, a 9 foot stainless steel dump body and under tailgate salt spreader on the chassis from Tri-Star Motors for an actual cost of $52,961. The board also awarded the bid for kitchen equipment at the middle school and high school to Carnegie Foodservice Equipment and Supplies in the amount of $174,195. Also approved was a bid of $191,979 for AstroTurf Corporation to resurface the track at Mansell Stadium. 

The high school will now also offer a Chromebook Repair Course  that will be added to the 2022-2023 Course Selection Guide beginning with the Spring 2023 Spring Semester. 

Student Representative  Dominic Vizza told the board that high school students attended a performance of Hamlet at the school and then took part in workshops. Representatives Julia Wirth reported that Drama Club students will attend a conference and take part in workshops. Girls Cross Country sent representatives to States and the Marching Band placed first in  one competition and performed an indoor concert. 

The next scheduled meeting will be the reorganization meeting scheduled for December 2, 2022, at which time the dates for 2023 meetings will be announced.
