Jeff Tech Operating Committee welcomes student member
The Jeff Tech Operating Committee met October 28 and welcomed a new member to the committee.
School Director Dr. Barry Fillman introduced Haley McCombs, a senior from the Punxsutawney Area School District, as the first ever student representative on the board.
“In many ways, Haley represents a lot of what’s great about Jeff Tech,” Fillman said.
In her address to the board, McCombs talked about her shop, Digital Media Arts, and her co-op position with Proform Powdered Metals in Punxsutawney. About the school, McCombs said, “I love going to my shop. I love all my teachers; I’ve never had any problems. It’s just a really great school for me [and] I’m really glad that I came here.”
Dr. Fred Park, committee chairperson, welcomed her to the committee and said he looked forward to hearing what the students had to say.
The committee then worked quickly through a short agenda. In closing comments, Director Fillman commended art teacher Angela Dragich and her students for the new mural in downtown Reynoldsville. The project took almost a year to complete with help from artist Deb Bunnell of Hollidaysburg. It came about through ArtsPath, a regional arts-in-education program through the Pennsylvanian Council on the Arts.
“It was a really, really well-done job, and I wanted to acknowledge that,” he said.
The operating committee will not meet in November. Instead, it will hold a reorganization workshop on December 5 at 5:30 p.m., followed by a reorganization meeting and regular meeting at 6:30 p.m.
