Jefferson County to impose burn ban next week due to dry weather

A county-wide burn ban is coming to Jefferson County next week.

At the August 20 Reynoldsville Borough Council meeting, council member Darren Scolese, who is also the borough fire chief, announced that at a recent meeting of the Jefferson County Fire Chiefs, the decision was made to implement the ban for 30 days due to the extremely dry weather. The ban is awaiting the Jefferson County Commissioners’ approval and should take effect Friday, August 28.

“Normally when we do this, it’s usually too late, we’ve already had multiple fires. We’re kind of being proactive with it this year,” he said.

Scolese said the ban is for all outside burning including burn barrels. He add that camp fires are allowed as long as they are in state approved campfire rings.
