Red, White and Blueberry Festival members ask Reynoldsville Council for variance
Plans for the Reynoldsville Community Association’s (RCA) Red, White and Blueberry Festival are progressing.
At the May 16 Borough Council meeting, RCA members asked council to consider a variance for the borough park to allow a beer tent to be located in the park during the festival on July 13.
Sheri Price of the DuBois Area Jaycees, the organization sponsoring the tent, said last year’s event did make a slight profit, but its location was on private property near the park but not in a position to see the stage entertainment.
Price added the tent is closely monitored and no one is permitted to leave the tent with a container open or otherwise. No one is served who is visibly intoxicated.
The Jaycees uses the money raised to help families in the DuBois Area School District, including C.G. Johnson Elementary School in Reynoldsville, with meals for Thanksgiving and presents for Christmas.
Borough solicitor Joe Ryan recommended the council consider the request and take further action at the June meeting. That would give him time to provide council with what it needs to do if it decides to permit the variance.
This year’s event is planned for July 12, 13 and 14.
